WHY EYELASHES FALL OUT IN SPRING: THE SEASONAL LASH CYCLE-LashForest

Issuing time:2021-08-09 23:17
It's that time of year again when natural lashes fall out faster than usual and this causes eyelash extensions to fall out with them. It’s nothing to do with the eyelash adhesive, the skills of the artist or even the lashes that are used, it all comes down to nature. This is all perfectly natural so don’t panic if you notice more fallouts than usual. Read on to know more about the spring lash shedding process.
Are Your Lashes Falling Out and More Baby Eyelashes Growing?
This is quite normal, changing lashes is a typical and natural part of the human body during spring and autumn. In fact, our natural lashes are constantly shedding every day due to our lash cycle. On average, it is completely normal to lose anything from 5-7 natural lashes per day!
Why Do My Eyelashes Keep Falling Out?
The fact is that this is a completely natural process to see your eyelash falling out. As our body prepares for warmer temperatures, which leads to faster hair and eyelash loss. Much like animals get their winter and summer coats, we get out seasonal hair and lashes.
There are several reasons for faster eyelash loss. The main reasons are moisture and hormone levels. Lack of moisture within the seasons leads to the natural loss of eyelashes.
On average, a single lash cycle lasts somewhere between 60 and 90 days, with the active growth of eyelashes phase (anagen) lasting up to 30 days, the transitional (catagen) phase lasting 14-21 days. The final stage, resting (telogen), lasts 30-45 days, but can also take up to 90 days.
So Let’s Talk About This ‘Eyelash Growth Cycle’ In More Detail, Shall We?
Our hair, whether it be the hair on our head or on our eyelids (yes, lashes are hair) go through 3 stages of growth. And when I say hair or lash, I mean each individual eyelash will have its own cycle, with its own little blood supply.
They start at the anagen stage, which is the baby lash phase. These are teeny tiny little lashes that are just starting to poke out from the lash line.
Can you still apply an extension to these anagen lashes I hear you say? Well yes of course you can, in fact, we encourage you too. But be careful to only use a very short, lightweight lash on these new lashes as we don’t want to cause any lash damage by overloading. At the end of the day, this is our top priority. NO LASH DAMAGE lashistas, remember that!
Then we have our catagen stage, otherwise known as the changing/transitional stage. Our natural lashes are about mid-length here and having a little well deserved rest, so they may stay at this length/stage for a few weeks. This is also the perfect stage to lash as they will last the longest.
Finally, we have the telogen stage. Our lash is fully grown now and ready to shed, leaving in its place a baby anagen lash.   Then the cycle starts all over again. Did you know that a telogen lash can be the worst to apply an extension to? It can shed at any minute!
What Else Contributes To Increased Natural Lash Shed?
Changes in humidity can also affect the eyelash growth cycle. If your skin is very dry, the hair follicles don’t get enough food to grow. This causes the telogen lashes to fall off before their time.
Another reason for faster eyelash loss is hormones. These months are when we lack exposure to sunlight due to spending more time indoors and fewer sunlight hours. In the wintertime, our body produces less melatonin, which affects our body’s hormone levels. Typically, you will be exposed to more sunlight in spring and summer. Your spring lash cycle until about mid-May, so don’t worry, the situation will calm down.
After the spring eyelash loss, they will be stronger, thanks to greater exposure to vitamin D. We can also get more vitamin D from eating the right food, such as egg yolks and oily fish.

Want To Know Our Flawless Tips To Battle The Dreaded Seasonal Lash Sheds?
Ensure lashes are thoroughly cleansed prior to each Infill appointment. We also can’t stress how important it is for your clients to wash their lash extensions daily at home with a foam cleanser.
We know when a client has been lying to us don’t we? Those little closed fans! Schedule frequent maintenance sessions if needed. But don’t worry, the dreaded seasonal shed won’t last forever.
After around 6 weeks everything should start returning to normal. It is just something that our clients have to ride out. It is our job as technicians to make sure they are aware of this, otherwise, you will have a lot of complaints regarding retention, when poor retention practices are not the cause.
So don’t be down on yourself fellow lash artists if you are noticing this. It is indeed a real thing and not a reflection on your work if clients see eyelash extensions falling out. It will all settle down soon and your lash sets will go back to looking as full as ever!
